As reported in Tri-City News, companies including Equinor plan to move ahead with fossil fuel mega-projects which would add hundreds of megatons of carbon equivalent emissions to earth’s atmosphere. The plans for the over 200 projects, to be rolled out over the next three years, include an oil sands project and deep ocean drilling in Canada. According to one study, the resulting total emissions would add the equivalent of one-quarter of 2020 global emissions to the earth’s “carbon budget”.
