At the 90th Anniversary of the New Deal, a new book Unlikely Heroes: Franklin Roosevelt, His Four Lieutenants, and the World They Made, chronicles the work of four members of Franklin Delano Roosevelt’s (FDR) cabinet, including WGF’s donor Vice President Henry A. Wallace, who together helped build the fundamental social and economic programs the public has benefitted from since.
Scott Wallace, Henry Wallace’s grandson and WGF’s Co-Chair, and FDR’s grandson Jim Roosevelt, are spearheading a project with the descendants of these same four advisors. They are pushing for strong government action today to defend these New Deal policies, along with many WGF grantees who are promoting a Green New Deal, government oversight of corporations, defense of democracy, and economic, racial, gender, and climate justice.
