Wallace Global Fund joins Amnesty International, the United Nations Human Rights Office, the Center for International Environmental Law, Greenpeace, and other collaborative partners to support a new effort that centers human rights and justice in the climate discourse and highlights the threat that climate change poses to basic human dignity and wellbeing.
The People’s Summit on Climate, Rights, and Human Survival will engage a diverse coalition of actors that connect human rights with the fight for climate justice for the first time. The group will push for innovative strategies and approaches that drive equity and ambition.
Climate change already threatens people’s fundamental rights to health, food, water, housing, work, and even life itself. Many of these rights are codified in existing international law, and there is increasing urgency to uphold them in the face of severe climate risks.
