Kindred Motes

As Senior Officer for Communications and Strategic Engagement, Kindred leads global media, editorial, digital, and engagement partnership efforts for the foundation. In addition to his work in communications and advocacy, he serves on the Board of Directors of the ACLU of Alabama and the Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights Young Leaders program. Prior to his position at WGF, Kindred was Digital Strategy Director at the Vera Institute of Justice, building and leading the organization’s digital team and growing its online audience from 15,000 in 2016 to 215,000 in 2019. His experience also includes developing and launching campaigns and strategic communications related to human rights for the Southern Poverty Law Center and the Control Arms Secretariat, where he worked with member organizations Oxfam and Amnesty International at the United Nations to coordinate global media outreach. Kindred holds a Bachelor of Arts in English from Birmingham-Southern College and a Master of Arts in international relations with honors from the University of Essex in Britain. In August of 2019, he received the Outstanding Young Alumni Award from Birmingham-Southern College for his work on behalf of civil and human rights.
